The BGBP etiquette has been adopted or patterned after Girls Brigade Singapore. The Young Leader will carry out the various GB Etiquette particularly for inspection (NO BODY CONTACT WHATSOEVER).
TIPS FOR INSPECTION:
HAIR STYLE - Neat and tidy
Girls - hair away from eyes at all times: short hair must be clipped, long hair neatly tied in a ponytail with either black or blue bands/ribbons ONLY.
Boys - hair should be short enough not to reach the nape (3 fingers measurement), around ears (2 fingers measurement), flat top and clean cut around the ears, away from the eyes.
NAILS - Clean and clipped, NO nail polish.
UNIFORMS - Clean and well pressed (ironed), with all accessories.
Collar neatly turned down; buttons complete
Length of skirt/shorts should not be more than 2" or 5cm above the knees nor below the knees.
BELT - Well buckled and properly in place: in belt holders.
POCKET - Not filled to capacity, must bot bulge or get deformed.
SHOES - Well polished, shoe laces securely tied. Black "leather" like shoes, 1" heels only (girls).
NB - No jewelry, except a simple wrist watch. Wedding or engagement rings (for Officers) may be worn with the uniform.
HANDSHAKE
The handshake of GB was formulated hundreds years ago.
the formal greeting in the BGBP is a handshake with the last finger of the right hand interlocks with that of another's.
SALUTE
The salute is a symbol of discipline and an act of courtesy when the uniform is worn. It is the duty of all Officers and Members to salute those who are senior to them.
When to salute
At meetings/Functions
When an Officer approaches the Young Leader (YL) or a Brigadier in uniform, the brigadier stands to attention and salutes.
If the Officer is in uniform, he /she returns the salute.
If the Officer is in mufti, he/she returns the salute with an appropriate salutation; Example: "Good Morning / afternoon"
When an Officer or a visitor approaches a group of brigadiers, the most senior one calls the group to attention and he/she ALONE salutes.
Members in uniform salutes their Officers on arrival at Company meetings or other functions.
At dismissal of parades; members salute.
Presentation of prizes, Certificates, Membership Cards
A member gives the salute, standing 2 paces from the person presenting the award, after which he/she steps forward and accepts the award with her hand, then steps backwards and retires.
National Anthem and General Salute
Officers salute and other ranks stand at attention.
Anthem of all nations are accorded the same courtesy and respect.
Passing a funeral / Cenotaph
An individual member in uniform will salute.
If a body of members is in parade, only the officer will salute.
On Parades
On parade: When the commanding Officer gives the command "MARCH ON THE COLORS" - All officers salute.
At the end of the Parade: when the commanding officer gives the command "MARCH OFF THE COLORS" - All Officers salute.

When assembling in large number for official parades or meetings, saluting on passing the colors in the street may be omitted.
The uniform is important to the Brigade Etiquette. It gives a good indication of the general level of discipline, team spirit, and self-respect within a company. It should be worn on all occasions unless otherwise directed by those responsible for convening the meeting or function.
ATTRACTION
Members particularly in the younger age ranges, are attracted to the organizations by its uniform, it gives a sense of belonging.
PRIDE & SELF-RESPECT
The emphasis upon appearing in front of other people smartly dressed in a uniform makes the member aware that his/her appearance matters. The dignity and pride attached to being part of a particular organization helps develop and emulate self-respect.
ESPRIT DE CORPS
Uniform helps a member to feel a sense of belonging to the Company; a oneness feeling.
GOOD BEHAVIOR
The uniform is the symbol of his/her acceptance of the way of life pointed out by BGB; its ideals and code of values for which The Boys and Girls Brigade stands. The members who wears the uniform of The Boys and Girls Brigade is inevitably associated with the organization.
UNIFORM TYPES:
Type A (Formal)
To be used in all formal occasions; Parade in Review, Enrollment Service, Awards & Recognition, National & International gatherings, etc.
Type B (Semi-formal)
To be used in regular BGB meetings within the company; simple & local representations or travel and the like.
Type C (Informal)
To be used for outdoor events, camps, community services, clean-up projects, outreach & travel; or as instructed.
