– Students will use a folder to keep papers in. All loose papers must be kept in a folder. Please make sure the student’s name and the subject are written on the front. Students will each receive a number and they should put their number on the front as well.
(Their name and number should be written on everything).
- Students will need one notebook for all written work (note taking, writing, vocabulary, grammar and reading responses). This notebook will be shared with Social Studies. (ELA will start in the front of the notebook and Social Studies will start from the back of the notebook.)
Vocabulary
Students will use a vocabulary workbook. We do vocabulary pretty much everyday. So everyday for homework, students should review daily what we did that day. Vocabulary quizzes will be given at the end of every unit. Students are also giving a grade for vocabulary sentences; which will be graded for grammar and comprehension.
Grammar
We will be using a Grammar textbook. These textbooks stay in school. However, students will be giving Grammar packets for workbooks and to study from. These need to be kept in the student’s folder. Students will receive one packet only and they are responsible for that packet. If they lose their packet, they will be responsible to make their own copy from a friend’s packet. Students need to keep these packets to study from for the end of year exams.
Literature
We will also be reading and working from a Literature textbook/eBook. (which includes short stories, poetry and character studies). Again, these textbooks will be kept in school. The eBook will be accessible on each student's Chromebook. As needed, I will provide any Literature material for work to be done at home accordingly.
-Chapter books – We will be reading 2-3 chapter books this school year. I am not sure whether we will get to all three of them, but my goal is to get at least two done.
Writing
We will focus on Narrative, Informational, and Persuasive Writing. We also will incorporate research writing.
(Students will use proper essay format writing.)
IXL Skills:
- The students are given weekly skills to complete on their Chromebook. These skills will be posted every Monday on the chalkboard and on “Google Classroom” and will be due by the end of that week (Friday). Students will be given 10-15 minutes before every ELA class to work on their IXL Skills. Students should also
work on these skills at home as needed to complete. These skills will be graded. The students will receive 4-6 skills per week and must get at least a score of 90 in each skill to have completed the skill. If we have a short week of school or a lot of special events or activities during a particular week, I will extend the due date at my
discretion.
