Upcoming Events/ Special Programs

We have relaxed our masking policies.  Masks are optional but will be required for events with 25 or more people.  Masks may also be required if outside performers or speakers request the audience wear them.  We will continue to have masks on hand for anyone who chooses to continue wearing them.  

We are open for case assistance, benefits counseling, mail reading assistance and some in person classes.   If you need assistance with any of the items listed you or want to attend a class you will need to make an appointment.  We are not accepting walk-ins.  

 For further details you can call the office at (646) 486-4444.  Staff are available Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9am and 6:30pm and Friday 9am to 5pm

Announcements

Volunteer Services are available Monday through Friday 10am to 6pm.  We have Readers and Friendly shoppers to assist in the immediate community.  Inquire in the VISIONS office for specific needs.  You can also reach out to Lisa Senior, Volunteer Service Manager at  (646) 486-4444 ext. 213.


Made Man Barbershop 170 West 23rd street

Need a haircut, calls us for an appointment.  The barbers at Made Man Barbershop are available to give hair cuts Monday through Friday 10am to 3pm.  Haircuts are $15.  Shaping up facial hair/beards $15.  We suggest tipping no less than $5. Voter Registration

If you are interested and would like to register to vote please reach out to the center for assistance. If you need to update any voter information, staff can help as well. 


Food Panty Services are available!!! All registered participants are welcome to pick up a prepackaged bag on Wednesdays between 11am and 2pm.

Blood pressure screenings are every  Tuesday  from 11am to 12pm.  Come out and get your blood pressure checked!  It's free!

NEW CLASS ALERT:  Braille with Rocky on Mondays from 4:30pm-5:30pm Conference Room A. New to braille or need some refreshing well get your fingers brushed off and join Rocky in this interactive braille class.  Class is currently filled to capacity but get on the waiting list to reserve your spot for the future!!!

Open Gym: Tuesdays and Thursdays (Fitness Center)   from 1-2:30 pm Jule Ramirez


Moving and Grooving: Thursdays 10am -11am Marion Shepphard.  (LC1)  No prior dance experience necessary.  Wear comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water.  This class is sure to make you sweat and shed some pounds!


The Knitty Gritty: Wednesdays 10am-11am Rosalyn Mc David  (Library)  Join us in this lively discussion group to talk about relationships with relatives, friends and loved ones, coping with vision loss, and insights on ways to get what you deserve in life. This hour will give you a chance to let loose and share life experiences and give advice.  


The Tea: Thursdays 1pm -2pm Rosalyn Mc David  (Snack Bar)  Don’t miss out on hot topics in the world of music and entertainment and the latest dish on your favorite stars. Tell a friend and let’s get the tea!!!  

The Tea will be in the library on April 4th, 11th and 18th and will be in the snack bar every week after that. 


News of the Week: Thursdays 2pm-3pm Rosalyn Mc David  (Snack Bar)  This class will discuss breaking, local and national news of the week and headlines at a glance. We will cover everything including health, sports, finance and more!


Memory Strength: Tuesdays 10:15am-11am Wayne Mc Kenzie (Library)  Increase your memory capabilities, concentration levels and fast thinking skills by participating in this memory strength class.  Get your brain exercising! We will have trivia, puzzles, riddles and more! 


Caribbean Club: Tuesdays 11:00am-11:45am Wayne McKenzie (Library)  Were you born in the Caribbean or anywhere outside of the US? Join us as we chat about the different things that the city has to offer. Learn to navigate all the services the city has and how you can get connected.   


The Man Cave: Thursdays 11am-12pm Jose Gil & Phillip Keys Beginning May 2nd (Snack Bar) We’re back! Come and join your fellow  guys to discuss various topics from health tips, relationship advice to everyday problem solving in a safe space. 


Mind Games (So nice we're offering it twice!!!): Tuesdays 2pm-3pm Brooke Levy  (LC3)  Mind Games will incorporate 3 different games: a word game, an activity game and a numbers game to focus and stimulate the mind while having fun. This class will help engage and sharpen the mind which is so important for older adults as we age; to lessen the chance of memory loss and dementia.  This class is good for all ages not just older adults! 


Percussion with Passion: Tuesdays 1:15pm-3:15pm Dalys Torres  (LC1) Come and learn how to play the castanets in this fun and interactive class. 


Carnegie Hall Performance  Thursday 5/2/24 11:00am-12:00pm Ann De Shazo Auditorium Join us for a spectacular spring performance with Carnegie Hall.  This hour of music will be fun and interactive as you listen to the beautiful sounds of the violin, viola, cello, bass and piano.  Connect with the artists and music through a talk back about the instruments and the pieces.  If you are a lover of music this is a performance you don't want to miss!  Sign up is REQUIRED 


Fitness Explosion is back!!!!  Join us on Tuesday May 21st from 10am to 3pm in the auditorium.  You will have a chance to work out with all of our expert instructors and learn more about the importance of health & wellness.  Sign up is required to reserve your spot!
