Block Printing

"Nature Prints and Written Statements"

7th Graders in Ms. Graessle's classes began a block printing project depicting images from nature with a focus on sustainability and biodiversity.  After reading an article from National Geographic about biodiversity, students researched a plant, animal or any other living organism that they wanted to use as the subject of their lino-cut.

Students will carve their rubber blocks, create an artist proof of their work and then analyze which changes should take place on the block. After revising their cuts, artists will print final prints and then create a series of experimental prints with different colored inks and papers.

Once the class has their prints, they will finish their research and write about their living organism and which role it plays in the environment. Some students will decide to write about sustainability issues, environmental changes and the impact it is having on living things and others will tell us as much as they can about the theme of their work.

Finished works of art and their written statements will be posted on Artsonia.com. Just search for "Lakeland Copper Beech Middle" on Artsonia.com and you can peruse all of the art we have created so far!
