I'm Valentina Zapata Castro, currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Univeristy of Massachusetts (UMass) in Amherst. 

I received my Ph.D. in mathematics in 2025 from the University of Virginia (UVA), where I worked under the supervision of Julie Bergner.

I'm interested in algebraic topology, (higher) category theory, homotopy theory and homotopical combinatorics.  Find out more about current projects and list of publications, and talks!

Previously I was at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, in Medellín, where I completed both my B.S. and M.S. in mathematics. My advisor was José Manuel Gómez Guerra.
