Thank you for taking the time to review my candidacy. I am a recent graduate of the University of Virginia, where I double-majored in Economics and Statistics with a minor in Computer Science. The union of abstract economic theory and pragmatic statistical analytics has drawn me towards an analyst role with a strong quantitative focus. Both my experiences in classes and internships have only furthered my academic thirst for understanding the world of economics. I am seeking the opportunity to work at a company that would allow me to both further my own education and also contribute significant value right from the start. I believe that my academic record and internship position exemplify desirable experience for an entry-level analyst.
Since my first semester at UVA, I began completing a rigorous academic workload towards my desired majors and minor. Additionally, I was fortunate to spend fall 2019 in a study abroad program based in London, UK. There, I was able to fully immerse myself in the economic, political, and cultural sphere of one the biggest financial hubs in the world. I feel that my experience abroad enhanced my maturity, independence, and other intangible qualities that are key in a career in finance.
In addition to my studies in economics, statistics, and computer science at UVA, I gained valuable experience in a professional setting in the summer of 2019 via an internship at River and Mercantile Solutions U.S, an investment consulting firm that offers fiduciary and advisory services to institutional clients, with a focus on defined benefit pension plans. I contributed in liability duration matching portfolio construction, fund searches, and client report generation. Throughout the summer, I became quite proficient in Excel – including VBA and both Morningstar/Bloomberg APIs. I began the internship with very little experience in Excel and am proud to say that much of my mastery in the program was self-taught. I would encourage you to refer to the individual projects I have listed in my resume, as they are representative of the work I was able to accomplish on my own intellect – many projects whose origin I conceived of myself.
In the summer of 2020, I received an internship offer at Kraft Analytics Group, which was unfortunately rescinded due to COVID-19. I was disappointed by this, but I still managed to make the most of my summer – working at my local golf course as a caddie and undertaking an independent project with my childhood best friend. We spent several months building a 17-foot sailboat from scratch, and we were able to have our maiden voyage before I had to leave for school. It was a truly rewarding way to spend the summer, and I was thrilled to have been able to spend the summer doing something I am passionate about with my best friend.
