Zhiyan “Z” Wu is a Professor of Strategy at Zhejiang University and previously served as a tenured Associate Professor at Erasmus University. His research explores the intersection of corporate governance and sustainability, with a particular focus on causal inference in research design. His work has appeared in leading journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management, Management Science, Organization Science, and Strategic Management Journal. His research has received the EBS Best Paper Award, been featured in major European news outlets, and highlighted on INFORMS’s Resoundingly Human podcast.
Z is an incoming Consulting Editor at the Journal of Management, where he will work with Associate Editors by providing methodological feedback during the revise-and-resubmit process, particularly on issues related to causal inference and empirical research design in marco-management research areas such as strategy, entrepreneurship, innovation, and international business. He previously served as a Senior Editor at Management and Organization Review and received the Journal of Management Best Reviewer Award.
In the classroom, he has been teaching across all levels (BSc, MSc, MBA/EMBA, and PhD) at Zhejiang University and Erasmus University. At Erasmus University, his innovative teaching earned him the Best New Course of the Year Award in Strategy and Entrepreneurship, and he was nominated by students for the RSM Innovative Teaching Award.
Outside academia, Z enjoys gardening, applying the same patience and care to cultivating plants as he does to nurturing ideas in his research and teaching.
