Fall 2024

For my education minor, I am completing fieldwork this fall semester at MLK Jr. Academy, working with a 1st-grade class. My role involves supporting students in their learning, observing classroom dynamics, and gaining hands-on experience in an elementary school setting. This fieldwork allows me to apply what I’ve learned in my education courses and develop my teaching skills in a real classroom environment.

Spring  2025

My favorite part of fieldwork this semester was garden time. Every Tuesday during the last hour of the day, the students got to spend time in the school garden. They were always so excited and looked forward to it all week. During this time, they planted seeds, learned about different insects, and discovered how fruits and vegetables grow. It was fun watching them explore and ask questions about the plants and bugs they found. Since it’s spring, the garden is full of flowers, and the kids enjoyed picking them and making little bouquets.

One part of the garden that the kids really loved was the fairy garden. That’s where all the berries grow, and they enjoyed spending time there. Some of them would pretend they were in a magical land, while others just liked tasting the berries and talking with friends. It was a peaceful and happy space where they could be themselves. I enjoyed seeing how much joy and learning the garden brought them. It made me realize how important it is for students to have outdoor learning time and connect with nature.
