The history of the Nu Alpha Zeta Chapter began in Catawba County, NC. Sorors from Catawba County thought it would be great to begin a Graduate Chapter. So in the summer of 1984, Soror Dora Clemons (at the time Dora Brawley) began the process by communicating with the National Headquarters in Washington, DC. After all the communication and submission of proper documents, Nu Alpha Zeta became a reality on September 18, 1984. The charter/initial members were Sorors: Dora Clemons and Evelyn Adams of Maiden, NC; Doris Lewers, Claremont, NC; Joanne Johnson and Catherine Tucker of Hickory, NC and Myrtle Bettis of Charlotte, NC. Soror Fannie Tyson of Hickory, NC had an interest but passed away before the issuance of the Certificate of Chartership.
Since Nu Alpha Zeta Chapter has completed numerous projects, increased membership, and proudly sponsors 2 undergraduate chapters. Theta Tau Chapter is on the campus of Lenoir Rhyne Univ. in Hickory. And Mu Omicron Chapter is on the campus of Appalachian State Univ. in Boone.
