One of the most useful features of zoom is being able to invite attendees without requiring them to create an account, just giving an ID and passcode, but it introduce vulnerabilities like the virtual background.

It seems Zoom is making an effort to lose corporate clients and to become another ad-based social network app, because we are asking them to allow disabling virtual background for non-authenticated users, and they gave us virtual mustache, unicorn horn and pirate eye patch.

I am having the same issue. Virtual background can be problematic with zoom bombers invading our meeting. They display sexual, racist, and offensive contents. This option only works for host and users of the Zoom account. They suggest we convert our meeting to a webinar, but our meeting is a discussion meeting. I hope they fix this because we have a conference coming up next month.

For your next virtual meeting, take advantage of the opportunity to seemingly be joining the meeting from anywhere by choosing a background that transports you to a professional location such as this regal wing of a Los Angeles Public Library.

As a member of the remote workforce, you have the ability to work from anywhere. Even when you are working out of your home office, a flexible workspace, or your neighborhood coffee shop you have the opportunity to exercise your creativity and choose a Zoom background that fits your #WFA state of mind.

One of the most common choices remote workers make is to utilize their local flexible workspace. To match your Zoom background to your surroundings, choose a virtual background that reflects your love for these shared spaces.

Just now catching up on the last season of Game of Thrones? To match your Zoom background to your current pop culture obsession, join your next meeting from the Iron Throne to draw eyes and command respect.

For a large Zoom meeting, a background image that is too busy or detailed runs the risk of being distracting to the other meeting attendees. When you want to stand out without attracting too much attention, a solid image background that is more than a blank black or white box hits the sweet spot.

If you want to get creative, try designing your own Zoom background image. Use a photo you've taken or check out free stock photo sites like Unsplash, Pexels, and Pixabay to find a fun Zoom background image.

Whether you want to change your background to a photo of your pet or favorite vacation destination, you'll need to crop your image so it fits Zoom's background image dimensions. Your image will need to have an aspect ratio of 16:9. Cropping your image to 1280 x 720 pixels or 1920 x 1080 pixels should work well.

As of writing this, Zoom does not support person/face-detection based virtual background in their Linux-version software. The solution below helps achieve the similar effect, and since it creates a virtual webcam, you can most likely use this solution for any apps that use a webcam, for example, Microsoft Teams. These instructions were originally posted by @BenTheElder, and IMO is a super fun and neat project, especially if you are into computer vision. -source-virtual-background/

What the code is doing essentially is grabbing image frames with Python and OpenCV. For each image, the face/body is cropped using TensorFlow.js Bodypix, and merged with the specified background. The modified images are then used to create the video feed via pyfakewebcam and v4l2loopback. I have tested the below instructions with Ubuntu 20.04, code used is archived in -background

As others have pointed out already, virtual background without green screen is not yet supported by zoom for Linux. There is a feature request for this in the zoom developer forum. Maybe supporting it can help making this feature a priority:

Hi, in the virtual background app I am unable to select the blur option its showing as "an error has occured". I tried even by uninstalling and reinstalling but didn't work. Tried logging out and logging again but didn't solved the problem. Can anyone help me to solve this problem.

When a custom virtual background is unavailable or not suiting your needs, but you still want to maintain some privacy with regards to your surroundings, the blur background option can be a great alternative. This option simply blurs the background of your video, obscuring exactly who or what is behind you. It's great for hiding a cluttered dorm room, taking a meeting in a coffee shop, or just keeping things professional.

The Blur option is just a variant of the virtual background options, and is directly controlled by the Virtual Background setting. Please refer to the Enabling Virtual Background section of the Virtual Background support article.

If you're facing issues with the blur option in the virtual background app, try checking for app updates or contacting customer support for assistance. Ensure your device meets the app's requirements, and if the problem persists, consider reaching out to the app's support team for personalized troubleshooting.

Ensure you have the latest version of the app installed. Outdated versions might have bugs causing this issue. Confirm your device meets the app's system requirements for using the blur background. This might remove corrupted data interfering with the blur function. Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps > [Virtual Background App] > Storage & cache > Clear cache and Clear storage.

Hi Folks - I'm trying to create a background for my Zoom meetings, so I went into the video settings and uploaded a background photo. The photo is pretty simple and its a high resolution photo (5333x3000). When I view the photo on my desktop it looks great. it's very clear and crisp. But when I upload it into Zoom and put it in my background for a video call, its blurry. The text that has my name and company name are barely legible when viewed on a 32" monitor. I don't see an option to enhance the quality of the upload, and I wonder if I've done something incorrect? I've attached a photo in this thread.

Hello. Thank you for the image. That helps. Your image is 1967x961. The recommended size is 1920x1080. For an easy test, grab an image that is 1920x1080 and see if that looks better. On my Zoom resource page is a lot of backgrounds - all free. Scroll down below my Zoom blog post and grab one unless you have another image.

I have Uma on my desktop computer and recently installed Zoom. It has an option for virtual backgrounds, suggesting that they are supported, but they simply don't work - nothing happens when you choose one. But they work just fine on Windows 10.

The Zoom VDI has a working virtual backgrounds, but is buggy (e.g., you cannot enter profile settings) and noticeably slower and more laggy. I'm not sure where this leaves me in terms of software useability.

I have been using virtual backgrounds without issue since March 2020, but in recent weeks I have sporadic issues with Zoom failing to work with any virtual backgrounds. When I turn on the camera, the feed stays black until a pop-up comes up saying that the virtual background is still loading and asking me to start video anyway or stop. I can not ever get the background to work. Unplugging and reconnecting the webcam, changing ports on the dock, restarting Zoom don't work. Using the mic on the webcam never suffers any issues and works even when the feed is black while Zoom is apparently attempting to load the virtual background. Once I click on "Use video" button and ignore the virtual background, the camera works without issue though obviously without the virtual background.

I just tried but it did not work. Still have the message "Virtual background is still loading". I noticed that my camera is working because the green light turns on and I have also tried a new camera with the same results. Thank You, the only way is to find and remove the hidden files.

Ah, I kind of assumed that we have all uninstalled and reinstalled zoom (perhaps, several times). Yes, uninstall zoom and delete the zombie files. I used iobit uninstaller free to do the uninstall. Then downloaded zoom install file. After it installed, I followed the five steps above. Even after half a day, it still works in my HP Envy desktop, which has an USB camera. (Unplugging the camera and plugging it back did not work for me. I had to do this specific routine: start zoom, Disable camera, Enable camera, quit zoom, and restart zoom.

I just uninstalled it for the 10th time and reinstalled it. I also tried to remove the "zombie" files by checking the "hidden file view" in File Explorer and finding some files in Program Files folder, then rebooting and installing zoom again and starting the program. The camera still does not show, and I get the "Virtual background is still loading" message. The camera does turn on with the green light button but nothing is on the monitor. Now I have tried to fix this problem for 5 days and I am 78 years old and just about ready to "call it quits" and use another program. Zoom does not ever help with this issue, I have pressed the Support tab so many times I am defeated. I have paid for this program for 2 years and never had any help except You all on the Zoom Community. For which I say Thanks and I am out...........

The Challenge Using Virtual Backgrounds

The holy-grail solution to generating a great virtual background is to place a green screen behind you that spans your entire background. Then, Zoom will create a beautiful chroma-keyed background using the green. e24fc04721
