The cello practice went very well. The notes were fairly easy and the rythems were simple and the tempo was very reasonable. I did have to read in alto cleff which was a good challenge for me. Some of the notes were much higher than what I am used to but with practice, I was able to make it happen!
Practicing the piano part took more time than the cello by far. The notes and rythems were much more complicated but I really enjoyed playing this piece. I set aside mulitiple times during the week to work on the piano parts and work through the tough pages of the piece and it was totally worth it!
My sister was very helpful throughout this whole process because she helped me record the audio files for each part and put them together. She used high quality software and I wouldn't have been able to do it without her help! After the audio files were recorded, I recorded the vidoes of me playing to make the video. It was quite a process but I am very proud of the finished result!
My final attempt to showcase everything that my 10+ years of music instruction has given me
My dad found this version soon after hearing the version by Christina Perry and I loved everything about their cover. I was also lucky enough to be able to purchase the sheet music for this song so that I could recreate this piece for my capstone project.
After months of practicing and many late nights with my sister, I was finally able to bring my vision to life with my own version of Christina Perry's "A Thousand Years". This capstone project is the accumulation of 10+ years of music instruction and I am proud to show off the final product!
Overall, I am very proud of the work that I put into this project and my final product. If I had more time, I would want to play more parts of the song and dive into some of the more challenging sections of this piece. However, with the time that I had for this project, I wanted to focus on the quality of my playing and working with my sister to put it all together and make this visually appealing.
I had wanted to play this song for a while but finding the time was difficult. The capstone project gave me the creative freedom to make this happen. Practice and time management was another element that I needed to balance but I thoroughly enjoyed playing the piece and putting everything together.
I think this project challenged me by adding the duet element and the recording element. Preparing for this project began months in advance and I had to balance my time between practicing the cello and practicing the piano. I knew that the duet aspect would be challenging but I was lucky to get help from my sister with this process. She was able to help me record audio and visual tracks for my project in order to bring my vision to life.
Over the years, my time in the VPA program has been amazing and I have enjoyed developing all the skills that went into this project. COVID definietly made it difficult to participate in the music community and limited my involvement but I was glad to return to concerts and the classroom as soon as we could. My music journey began when I was six years old and I am proud of how far I have come. Thank you!
