Preparing music for an audition is something I have not had to do often, but it is something that I have become much better at. For this audition, I broke it up into chunks in order to make the most of my time. The first thing I looked at was the scale. I remember the first one being a scale I was familiar with and one that did not go as high up as the other. Practicing this scale did not take too much time. I used a mentronome and a tuner to check my notes and wrote in a fingering that I was comfortable with. After the first scale, I moved on to the next. This scale was more difficult and I spent much more time with my tuner making sure that I was playing the right notes. I also changed my fingering many times in order to find the one that worked best for me. While this scale was still in progress I began working on my exerpt. This expert was extremely fast with complicated note patterns and lots of accidentals. Most of my time was spent counting and working with a metronome to make sure that I was playing in time. Overall, I was proud of the audition I submitted and all of the time I put into my practice paid off. I ended up getting into honor orchestra but I had to decline this year due to prior engagements. However, I am not upset about this because I believe that preparing for this audition gave me skills that I will need later and was overall a good experience!
