Following a stroke and the inability to play with my right hand, which no longer had any feeling, I tested a few commercially available devices to enable me to play with only my left hand.
However, none of them convinced me (problems with access to all the buttons, latency), so I developed the "Zniko" controller: I modeled the controller, found the necessary components, and adapted the software.
It allows you to play with your left or right hand on PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation.
It can be attached to a desk/tabletop or strapped around your thigh.
I tried the controller on different games: Minecraft, MarioKart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime 1, Risk of Rain 2, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity, Monster Hunter Rise, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Caution: For shooter games, it's
easier if you can select enemies. For example, in Risk of Rain 2, this option isn't available, making it harder to kill the bad guys, unlike in Metroid Prime 1.
I would like to thank Fire Akuma, his wife, and Léa from the Nintendo Town team (https://www.nintendo-town.fr/) for their unwavering support and the use of the chef's 3D printer (lots and lots of sloppy kisses).
Electrocoder, Mendoyakaro, and darthjcloud/blueretro for their help following my difficulties finding the right microcontroller.
The gp-2040 software - https://github.com/FeralAI/GP2040/blob/main/LICENSE, without which the adventure would have been aborted. My dad, a former electrician, for the soldering on the first version. My wife, daughter, and son for their patience and encouragement in bringing my crazy ideas to life, not to mention their help with screws and holes. It's not easy when you only have one working hand!
Written by my son, daughter and wife under my guidance as I also have aphasia (difficulty speaking and writing)...
