Hi Everyone! My name is Zack Langer, and I am a dedicated Columbus, Ohio–based educator, percussionist, arranger, and composer. I began taking drum lessons at the age of five and later pursued a degree in music education at Capital University in Bexley, Ohio. While at Capital, I had the opportunity to study with many outstanding percussionists, drummers, and music educators from the Central Ohio area. During my time at Capital, I was an active member of the Capital Symphonic Winds, Big Band, Chamber Percussion Ensemble, and the OtterCap Symphony Orchestra. In the winter of 2023, I also had the privilege of marching with the WGI ensemble Cap City 2, performing on drum set. As a performer, I draw inspiration from a wide range of musical influences, including Rush, Porcupine Tree, Haken, Tyler The Creator, the Count Basie Orchestra, Thad Jones and Mel Lewis, The Huntertones, Thank You Scientist, Snarky Puppy, Miles Davis, and many others
I discovered my passion for teaching at a young age, gaining early instructional and leadership experience through my involvement in the Boy Scouts. Shortly after graduating from high school, I accepted my first position as a marching band percussion director and have remained committed to music education ever since. I currently teach a wide range of musical styles in various capacities for middle schools, high schools, and independent musical organizations throughout the central Ohio area. I also actively perform with the Winds of Ohio and Fillmore Chillmore. As a professional educator, I strive to make music accessible and engaging for students of all ages by connecting academic instruction to real-world performance experiences. I strongly believe in teaching life skills through music and maintain that a strong music education fosters confidence, determination, attention to detail, leadership, time management, and many other skills students can apply in their everyday lives.
