On Sunday, March 8, 2026, Zion Baptist Church came together in a spirit of gratitude, remembrance, and joyful praise to celebrate the 2026 Founders Day Worship Service. This year’s theme, “Honoring the Journey: From Generation to Generation,” beautifully highlighted the faith, resilience, and legacy of the saints who have built and sustained our church community for over a century.
The service began with a powerful musical prelude led by Brother Dean Mallory, followed by uplifting selections from Zion’s Mass Choir that set a reverent and celebratory tone.
Sister Yvonne Turner opened the worship experience with a grounding reflection, followed by Reverend Ronald Lloyd’s heartfelt call to worship that invited the congregation into a posture of praise. Reverend Andreé Baylor Lloyd then offered a sincere invocation prayer, and the congregation united in reciting the Lord’s Prayer together.
The sanctuary was filled with the inspiring hymn, “Standing on the Promises,” as Trustee Peggy Preston read Psalm 145:1–4, reminding all of the sacred call to declare God’s works from one generation to the next. Reverend Janet Simpkins led the corporate prayer, and church history readings were offered by Sister Carol Merrill Bright, Brother Robert Hays, Sr., Deaconess Stephanie Jones, and Trustee William Muse, each contributing to the morning’s spiritual rhythm.
Warm greetings were extended by Sister Brenda Whiting to members, visitors, and friends, followed by announcements from Reverend Virginia Pollard.
Sister Yvonne Turner, President of the Anniversary Ministry, delivered heartfelt remarks honoring Zion’s enduring legacy and the generations who have faithfully carried the ministry forward.
She also introduced the guest preacher, Reverend Rodney Ragwan, DMin, PhD, Global Theological Educator with International Ministries. Reverend Ragwan’s sermon offered deep insight, a global perspective, and a stirring call to faithful service.
A special highlight of the day was the "commercial" announcing the upcoming Retirement Celebration for Pastor James A. Pollard, Sr., PhD, and First Lady Reverend Virginia Pollard. This joyful announcement was met with warm applause and heartfelt appreciation.
More details about the Retirement Celebration can be found here.
Founders Day 2026 was a beautiful reminder of Zion’s rich heritage and the ongoing call to build a church rooted in faith, service, and love. Every moment—from the music to the message—honored the past while inspiring the next generation to carry the torch forward.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to every participant, ministry leader, and worshipper who made this year’s celebration both meaningful and memorable.
To God be the glory for the great things He has done—and continues to do at Zion Baptist Church of Ardmore.
