Japanese photo cameras dominate on Pixabay

Pixabay, a highly acclaimed digital platform, offers a treasure trove of high-quality photos, posters, and graphics for free. This platform is powered by the generosity of volunteer enthusiasts who upload their works with the hope that they will be of use to someone. In fact, media portals often turn to Pixabay for photographs and credit the contributor's user name to recognize and thank them for their contribution.

Currently, there are more than 1.5 million images available for free download. Also, Pixabay arranges photographs by camera models. As of December 17, 2022, there are 1269 models registered, some of which are cellphone models. The ten most popular brands among all enlisted models are Canon (21.91%), Sony (16.39%), Nikon (14.34%), Panasonic (12.21%), Fujifilm (9.14%), Olympus (8.51%), Samsung (5.83%), Casio (2.99%), Pentax (2.76%), and Apple (1.34%). Among the total 26 brands, 90.31% are Japanese brands.

On the other hand, the situation is a bit different regarding the number of uploaded images. The vast majority (96.4%) of more than 1.5 million images were captured by Japanese cameras. The top ten brands used by contributors are listed below in order of popularity: Canon (38.12%), Nikon (32.74%), Sony (12.06), Panasonic (6.85%), Olympus (2.79%), Apple (2.44%), Fujifilm (2.34%), Pentax (1.1%), Samsung (0.94%), and Casio (0.21%).

It is noteworthy that 44 out of the 50 most popular camera models, based on the number of uploaded images, have model names that include the letter "D." This seems to be a common practice among Japanese camera manufacturers such as Canon, Nikon, and others.

The camera models with the most uploaded images, numbering over twenty thousand each, are as follows: Nikon D3200, Nikon D3300, Canon EOS 600D, Nikon D7200, Nikon D5100, Canon EOS 700D, Nikon D5200, Sony Ilce-6000, Canon EOS 6D, Nikon D7100, Canon EOS 60D, Canon EOS 70D, Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Nikon D5300, Nikon D3100, Canon EOS 550D, Nikon D90, Nikon D750, Nikon D7000, Canon EOS 80D.

Japanese camera manufacturers are known for their cutting-edge innovations, strong R&D capacities, attention to detail, and strict quality control procedures, all of which have allowed Japan to become a global leader in the camera and lens sector. Therefore, it is no surprise that only Japanese cameras are on the above list.
