Philosophy

Teaching Philosophy

Showing every student that I unwaveringly believe they are capable and worthy of learning and succeeding is the foundation of my philosophy. Then, by showing how new learning is related to current knowledge, sometimes by analogies, stories, demonstrations, posing scenarios, or any games, labs, tips, tricks, and methods I can find, I hope to help adult students link what they want to know with what they already knew. I want learners to understand why new concepts are relevant to their goals because understanding why inspires the motivation to learn. Sometimes, taking a concept apart and breaking it down into pieces makes the adaption of new thought easier. Sometimes, digesting and assimilating small pieces of information works better than drowning in large quantities of learning objectives in a single session.  Sometimes people have different ways of learning, and an exciting challenge is to be able to present the same concepts in ways that can appeal to different learning styles.  Finally, I am not the only person who can teach the student; he or she can learn not only from me, but from the other students, their families and friends, and the community. I intend to be there, however, to help assimilate all that and focus it, and polish it into a professional or personal achievement.  I'm there to believe they can learn and succeed until they can see it for themselves, and I won't give up until it happens.
