The image shows the nanostars and nanorods structures in flash sintered Al-doped ZnO ceramic pellet. The formation of such structures is achieved by the condensation of Zn vapor formed by the synergistic effect of electrochemical reduction and Joule heating
Zhongxia Shang, currently a post-doc in the group, has been awarded 2nd place in the TMS paper contest, and will be awarded this at the next TMS meeting in Spring 2021

Winter 2018Sidharth is our summer undergrad research fellow in 2018. He works with us on discovery of high strength nanocrystalline alloys.
09/8/2018Jin Li, a graduate student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been awarded the American Vacuum Society (AVS) – Applied Surface Science Division 1st Place Student Award. This honor is in recognition of his work focusing on the understanding of irradiation damage, as well as design irradiation-resistant materials
01/26/2018Jin Li just won the MRS Graduate Student Silver Award at MRS Fall meeting in Boston, 2016! (https://www.mrs.org/gsa-past) He is the 2nd student in our group that has won this award! The first student is our Dan Bufford, back in 2013.
MRS, established in 1973, is one of the largest material research conferences for the material community with almost 14,000 members of materials researchers from academia, industry, and government. As a recognized leader in the advancement of interdisciplinary materials research, the MRS Graduate Student Awards are intended to honor and encourage graduate students whose academic achievements and current materials research display excellence and distinction. MRS seeks to recognize students of exceptional ability who show promise for future substantial achievement in materials research. Emphasis is placed on the quality of the student’s research accomplishment.
04/04/2017A group of researchers in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University led by Dr. Xinghang Zhang has investigated defect dynamics in heavy ion (Krypton) irradiated nanotwinned Ag and revealed twin boundary-defect clusters interactions via in situ radiation
04/29/2015Each year, the Association of Former Students at Texas A&M University chooses up to 15 graduate students to receive Distinguished Graduate Student Awards in one of three categories: Excellence in Research-Doctoral, Excellence in Research-Master’s, and Excellence in Teaching. Student nominations arrive from faculty advisors or departments, and nomination represents a true honor and accomplishment in itself, due to strenuous eligibility requirements. A panel of reviewers including faculty and administrators chooses award recipients.
