Hi there! I'm Zailey.
I'm 17 years old and about to start my last year at H. H. Dow High School. Since kindergarten, I've been part of Girl Scouts. During these 13 years I have earned the Bronze and Silver awards, and worked on my Gold Award (mentioned more below).
Outside of school and Girl Scouts, I love giving back to my community. I enjoy volunteering and taking on leadership roles through leadership programs, clubs, cross country, and Girls on the Run.
I decided to partner with Larkin Township because I have lived in this neighborhood for ten years and I have used the path that leads to our community park and experienced the issues of this path personally. This led me to want to directly give back to the community I sold cookies to and partner with my township.
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest Award in Girl Scouts, it is comparable to the Eagle Scout Award in Boy Scouts (more recently known as Scouting America). It involves a project addressing a community issue, planning, leadership, and approximately 80 hours or more of service. The Gold Award leaves a lasting impact on the community and teaches many skills to the Girl Scout.
In the summer of 2018 I completed my Bronze Award. The Bronze Award is the third highest award that a Girl Scout can earn. For this project I made dog and cat toys for the Humane Society Of Midland County.
In 2020-2021 my troop and I completed our Silver Award. The Silver Award is the second highest award that a Girl Scout can earn. As a troop we made 14 tie-blankets and decorated 1200 paper folders to give to the Humane Society Of Midland County. We also created a bond between Staples and the Midland Humane Society by Staples offering to do the printing for the adoption papers every year. (We also filled each adoption folder with the designated paper packet and coupons after Staples printed them.)
