Zaidi ya Dreams now works with four family groups. Each family house is self contained and has a house mother who meets the daily needs of the children.
Yasmine, Amani and Ayana
Founder and family.
The children at Zaidi are all in care due to abuse or abandonment.
We have taken in children who have been very sick from mistreatment or abuse.
6 of the children were under a month old when they joined us.
A further 7 were under a year. 4 were between one and two. One was 3 and one was 6.
Some have been sexually abused from as young as 18 months. One child was left inside a pit latrine (long drop toilet). The kids have had broken bones, bruises and burns to heal from. One child had a broken leg when she was just two weeks old. Many have been left outside exposed to the elements, stray dogs and other dangers from a very tender age.
We firmly believe in family reintegration wherever possible. We have reintegrated 27 children. The children who remain with us have no other safe place to go.
We have a few special needs children. One is very high needs following a catastrophic stroke from sickle cell anaemia. We also have some children on the Autism spectrum and motor planning disorder. Some have been exposed to HIV but all have become HIV negative. Some have acquired brain injuries from abuse and malnutrition. All of the children are deeply affected by Trauma and loss. This affects how they learn.
