My name is Zack Kroger and I am a second-year Biomedical Engineering major at the University of Cincinnati. I discovered biomedical engineering when I was a junior in high school. At the time I didn't know what I wanted to do in the future, besides that I wanted my career to work towards discovering better treatment for Type 1 Diabetes. My cousin was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 4 years old. My whole life I've watched him struggle with his diabetes, and I've always wanted to do everything I could to help him. Upon discovering biomedical engineering, it clicked. I knew that this major and career would best allow me to help someone close to me. I've recently completed a research co-op that, while not T1D related, has informed me about the trajectory I want to see my career follow.
I consider myself a hard worker who loves collaboration in team environments. I believe that the best solution to any problem can be found through the collaborative efforts of a diverse team. I hope to apply this ideology during my college experience into my career as a biomedical engineer. In the future, I hope to primarily focus on improving the quality, effectiveness and affordability of diabetes drug development and treatment technology, while maintaining a peripheral interest in prosthetic devices.
