I chose the quote “Do or do not. There is no try.” -Yoda Kershner, I., & Lucas, G. (1980). The Empire strikes back [Film]. Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation.
I selected this quote to describe occupation as there is not a wrong or right way to do something. The word “try” implies that there is a chance of failure associated with a task, however when you perform an occupation, you do it in whatever way works for you. As occupational therapists, it is our job to help a client to continue to do an occupation the way they had been, or adapt it so it can be done according to their current circumstances.
I expressed my quote as a friendship bracelet for two reasons. First, through this method I was able to represent the colors of the character who said my quote through this. Also, making this type of bracelet is an activity I had done a couple of times with clients at my previous job. This job is what guided me to occupational therapy in the first place so it come full circle in a way through my representation.
I expressed my quote as a “jellyfish” friendship bracelet. It is called a jellyfish bracelet because of the method it is made. I used embroidery floss and a cardboard guide to make this project. For the string colors I chose dark green, light green, tan, and brown, which are the main colors associated with Yoda. Since Yoda is pretty synonymous with this quote I thought the colors alone were good enough to represent the quote.
