Zachary Malone

My name is Zachary Malone and I am a sixth year PhD Candidate in Environmental Systems at UC Merced. I am interested in soil biogeochemistry, specifically in urban ecosystems. I am currently working on a short-term compost experiment looking at soil gas emissions and soil health impacts and a long-term compost application study looking at carbon persistence and soil health.

I am advised by Dr. Rebecca Ryals.

Research Interests:

• How do organic matter amendments influence carbon storage in urban soils?

• How do organic matter amendments improve overall urban soil health? Ecosystem health?

• How can we improve the utilization of organic urban waste - such as composting and applying to soils?
