CONCEPT STATMENT
I am developing a flag plaza for Drury University in the common area right across from Oglin Library, in section A of the Master Plan for Drury. In my design, I will have a shading element that provides some shade during the hot summer days, but also allow some light to get through to warm up the area during the morning, evening, and winter days, by creating a louvered system roof to allow a certain amount of sun through. The design will be open to allow airflow through the space so that the space doesn't get overheated and allow for a breeze to pass through. I believe this design will fit into the daily lives of the students here at Drury because it will allow for an outdoor space to be integrated into a classroom or for an area for people to study, hang out, socialize, etc. This design will represent "Changing Mid-Stream." Changing mid-stream is obviously not the best course of action, so it’s often used negatively to talk about someone who doesn’t stick to their plan. It means that, to change your mind or change what you’re doing after you have gotten started. For college students, it means that they changed courses or pathways because it was too difficult or weren't necessarily interested.
