Education

During his undergraduate career at Wabash College Zach received a minor in Education along with a minor in Creative Writing. He earned these to work towards his goals of better educational standards for at risk youth. A direct result of his hard work during his education minor was receiving the excellence in Education award by the college.

College Mentors For Kids

For two years (2019 - 2021) Zach mentored a local elementary student named Ian who alongside his fellow classmates helped to foster and teach them about the college experience. The purpose of the program was to encourage and show the students to go to college when the time came and show them what it took to be a college student. Zach was part of what the organization calls a 'buddy family' that consits of other students and mentors who lead the students in activities and guide them through the weeks lesson. The lessons included learning how to empathize, teaching them about different cultures, how to show sportsmanship, and knowing when to be kind and thankful.

Project Transformation DC

During the summer of 2021 Zach worked in Washington DC alongside a group of like minded peers who helped to foster and teach youth who where at risk of dropping out or failing public education programs. The group did this through guided lesson plans that they developed with supervisor approval. Zach led lesson plans in literary topics and helped students with the formal writing and citing skills. Each day the students worked with him for one hour in the form of grammar lessons, writing workshops, and book discussion.

Wabash Liberal Arts Immersion Program

As a way of giving back to the college that had given him so much Zach worked as a mentor for the Wabash Liberal Arts Immersion program, the same program that introduced him to the college back in the summer of 2019. Through this role Zach was a mentor and guide for the group of incoming freshman who had been carefully selected to participate in the program that offered them their first college credit and introduced them to the services, expectations, and lifestyle that Wabash College students share. When the students were not in class or working with their tutors they where with Zach and two other mentors who took them on weekend excursions, hanging out with them in their dorms lobby, talking with them 1 on 1, introducing them to potential employers, and nurturing them into being successful college students.
