Kentucky Fried Chicken was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders, who sold fried chicken from his roadside restaurant in Kentucky during the Great Depression. KFC's original product is pressure fried chicken pieces, seasoned with Sanders' secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices. The first KFC franchise opened in Utah in 1952. It is the world's second-largest restaurant chain (as measured by sales) after McDonald's. The first Singapore branch opened in 1977 at Somerset Road.
