Keith J. Kramer and his wife's uncle Matthew Burns founded Insta-Burger King in Florida in 1953 . In 1954, two franchisees David Edgerton and James McLamore purchased the company and renamed it "Burger King". In 1957, Burger King introduced its signature product, the "Whopper". Burger King's Australian franchise operates under the name Hungry Jack's. The first Singapore branch opened in 1982 at Peninsula Plaza.
