Have you ever driven a vehicle with tires that were misaligned? What happened to the car's performance?
In the short term, the car likely handled poorly, acquired uneven tire wear, and burned more fuel. If the misalignment continued, it may have spurred unnecessary expenses for the purchase of new tires, or worse, a new suspension system.
Something similar happens with learning. Alignment is also an instructional design term that means creating learning experiences where the learning objectives, activities, and assessment tasks are closely connected. The more associated and related these are, the richer the learning experience will be for the learner.
