About the Candidate
Yvonne Bouknight is a long-standing Montclair resident and proud mother of two daughters, both graduates of Montclair Public Schools.
As a dedicated member of the Montclair Public School Board, Yvonne has shown strong leadership on the Curriculum, Special Education, Policy, and Culture and Climate Committees. Over the past two and a half years, her focus has been clear: ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed. She believes access for all is the foundation of achievement and advancement across the district.
Yvonne retired in 2018 after 39 years as an educator, including service as an Adjunct Professor at Kean University, where she trained future and in-service K–12 teachers to integrate technology into their classrooms. Her career has given her deep knowledge of student and parent needs, as well as the ability to advocate effectively on their behalf.
Beyond education, Yvonne has been a strong advocate for women, children, and youth in faith-based organizations. She currently serves on the National United Women in Faith Board of Directors, contributing to the Finance, Legacy Endowment Fund, and Reading Program Committees. She has also partnered with La Providence School in Pétionville, Haiti, providing critical educational resources and supplies.
Guided by the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “The time is always right to do what is right,” Yvonne is committed to continuing her work with the Montclair community to strengthen our schools and ensure every student has the tools, resources, and support to thrive.
