I am Yulia Yao, a piano teacher. I started learning piano at the age of 8 and graduated from Nanjing Arts Institute in 2005, majoring in Music Education with a focus on piano. I studied under Associate Professor Chen Xiaoyin and Professor Mo Jialang. I also studied the Chinese zither, under young performer Jin Xing and the renowned performer Ren Jie.
After graduation, I taught piano at Xinghai Piano School for a year. In 2006, I secured a formal position at Changzhou Teacher Training School, teaching piano, sight singing, ear training, and music theory to preschool teacher college students and high school students. I taught three classes of music students, totaling over 30, with nearly no initial knowledge. Within three years, all students reached Grade 10 piano level. All were admitted to Nanjing Arts Institute and Nanjing Normal University's Music Department, with a 100% acceptance rate. I received the Jiangsu Province Music (Piano) Examination Outstanding Teacher Award in 2006, 2009, and 2011, and the Jiangsu Provincial Literature Federation Jiangnan Music Children's Instrument Competition Piano Group Outstanding Teacher Award in 2010. I also published three papers on piano education.
Since 2004, I've taught children's piano lessons on weekends. My students achieved Grades 3-10 in piano examinations, with a 100% pass rate and 80% achieving good and excellent grades. My students won second and third prizes and Excellence Awards in Jiangsu Province piano competitions. After moving to the USA with my husband in 2012, I continued teaching piano and established a good reputation.
To date, I've taught over 300 piano students. My experience has given me rich teaching expertise and shaped my philosophy of making learning fun and teaching according to each student's abilities. In the USA, I've studied Western music education methods, integrating them into my teaching philosophy, developing a unique East-West teaching approach.
I currently focus on piano education for beginners, exploring children's educational methods, materials, and creating and collecting various music teaching tools. I tailor piano lessons to each child's age, cognitive level, and personal interests, combining parents' suggestions and requirements.
