Project: Visibility of Latin American Women Mathematicians.
The activities carried out in this project aimed to inspire, educate, and empower individuals while promoting the valuable contributions of women in mathematics in Latin America. From our standpoint, the mathematical community has the ability to undertake initiatives to foster:
Positive role models: Girls need to see successful women in mathematics in order to be motivated to follow that path.
Supportive environments: It is crucial for girls to feel supported in their pursuit of mathematics. This includes having access to good teachers and mentors, as well as being part of a community that values and highlights the work done by women in the field.
This project was developed with the support of ICMAM Latin America and funded by the CWM Grant from the Committee for Women in Mathematics of the International Mathematical Union. As part of the project, two videos were produced: the first featured the participation of prominent Latin American women mathematicians, and the second, a short documentary, was presented at an event at the Senate of the Republic in Mexico.
