Hi, I'm Yun Hou (侯韵). "Yun" (韵) means "beautiful sound" or "rhythm."
I'm an Assistant Professor in the Innovation, Policy, and Entrepreneurship (IPE) Thrust at HKUST(GZ). I study innovation and entrepreneurship, with a focus on how institutional shifts (intellectual property regimes, government policy, and geopolitical tensions) shape the way firms and entrepreneurs innovate. Methodologically, I rely on causal inferences and experiments to identify these effects.
I earned my PhD from the National University of Singapore and completed my master's and bachelor's at Peking University. I was born in a beautiful and tranquil small county surrounded by rivers in Hunan.
When I'm not researching, you'll find me deep in a music rabbit hole, at a stand-up comedy show, or on a hiking trail.
