The showcased student artworks are derived from my course, Design I: 2D Composition. This course serves as a fundamental cornerstone in the field of arts and design, focusing on imparting students with basic visual elements and design principles. Throughout the course, students learn to utilize both traditional and digital media, including Adobe software, to express their creativity and concepts.
Line -- This section includes students' art pieces about Line. This was the first project assigned to students at the beginning of the course Design I: 2D Composition. Students were given two themes: Emotion and Dynamism, and for each theme they needed to express two different art pieces through sketching or drawing lines.
Music Reactions -- This section includes students' acrylic paintings after they first learned the basic elements and theories about shape, space, and color in visual art. The students listened to four different pieces of music, and they were asked to express their direct reactions to the music. The four pieces were: Symphony No. 40 in G (Mozart's symphony), Say So (pop music), Kass' Theme (game music), and Du Hast (heavy metal).
Music Reactions II -- This section includes students' digital artworks further developed from their Music Reactions project. The students selected one music piece from the four and illustrated/designed two versions of a music cover, expressing different emotional effects and simple visual narratives.
Letterform -- This section includes students' handmade letterform designs. Students first created an ideation draft for four given themes: plant, water, desert, and joy, then chose one theme and extended their idea into 26 letters and 9 digits. The art pieces showcase their first attempt to design letters and digits on their own.
Posters for Music Festivals -- After achieving the essential knowledge about visual elements and design principles, the students in the course Design I: 2D Composition were asked to complete a group project with four students in a group. The given theme was "a poster for a music festival." The student groups first played the role of "client" by writing down their "requirements" for a made-up music festival, and then they switched the “requirements" with other groups. After that, the students worked on the poster design following the "requirements" they got from their "client."
Raising Awareness of Nature Protection -- The following artworks are selected final projects in Design I: 2D Composition. Students selected one theme from the given ten and designed either a poster or an illustration to express the idea of protecting the natural environment.
The ten given themes are Endangered Animals, Meeting Icebergs and Glaciers, Deforestation and Its Effects, Plastic Pollution in Oceans, Air Quality and Pollution, Water Conservation, Renewable Energy, Impact of Fast Fashion, Urban Green Spaces, Eco-Friendly Lifestyle Choices.
