Team Leader (Principal Investigator)

Yumi Konagaya

Yumi worked as a graduate student in the lab of Michiyuki Matsuda at Kyoto University, Japan, where she developed a transgenic mouse line expressing a novel FRET-based reporter for AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and found tissue- and cell-type specific activation of AMPK in vivo. After she received her Ph.D. from Kyoto University in 2019, she moved to the United States for her postdoc study.  She worked as a postdoc in the lab of Tobias Meyer at Stanford University and Weill Cornell Medicine, USA, and studied the proliferation-quiescence decision using a live-cell reporter system for E2F and cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs). Then she started her own lab as a principal investigator at RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research (BDR), Kobe, Japan, in January 2024. Her current research interest is cell fate decision using live-cell imaging and multiplexed single-cell analysis.
