I am Zheng Yuhan, a PhD candidate in the National University of Ireland, you can call me Sicilyeros

A life explorer and also enthusiastic about research in urban issues

I've always enjoyed everything, including student work, numerous contests, creative entrepreneurship, and photography throughout my college life. But it wasn't until I got into the research of urban that I understood what I genuinely indulge in: being a researcher who is constantly curious and passionate about the world.

My research focus is twofold: One splits into urbanization in China. I have expanded my researches into sustainable urbanization, especially urban redevelopment, and proposed in-depth research: collaborative governance in neighborhood regeneration (social network analysis); analysis of place attachment in micro-renewal (community-based); Decision-making for urban redevelopment; the other focus goes to the urban design for a “Synaesthetic city”, which integrates people’s well-being into the new urban agenda. In addition, I have also engaged myself in urban resilience, public policy analysis, residential segregations, and other urban & community-related domains.

My recent publications include the urban resilience: 'Exploring the Measurement of Urban Resilience and its Influencing Factors under the COVID-19'; decision-making in urban affairs 'Deciphering and Optimizing Strategies for the Urban Regeneration Decision-Making in China: the Case of Chongqing';  analysis of public policy in the construction sector 'Deterrence of Punitive Measures on Collusive Biddings in the Construction Sector'

Currently, I am further engaging with how to achieve ethical, inclusive, and sustainable innovations in the context of climate change and energy transition (C&E) across Europe. I try to generate a more nuanced understanding of what incentives drive people’s different interpretations of innovations in the context of C&E, and further depict the pattern and typology of the way interpretations (of C&E innovations) act on climate and energy actions by different actors across European regions. My background as an engineer, combined with my interests and proficiencies as a social scientist, makes me ideally suited to comprehend the innovation languages (some of the technical and engineering parts of the innovations), connect interdisciplinary realms and contribute creatively and productively to the climate and energy transitions.

I have been working to raise two abilities of mine: first, develop capacities for ethnographic and interview-based research, rather than emulating quantitative methods; second, develop abilities to dig up the urban data in many forms like large-scale administrative data from Twitter, Google Maps, and also the data by GIS, water sample...
