Aerosols in Natural Environments & Human Society
I'm an atmospheric scientist interested in biosphere-origin aerosols in complex systems, especially bioaerosols (e.g., microbes, spores, biomolecules, etc.), biomass burning aerosols, and biogenic secondary organic aerosols in natural systems and human society. My research interfaces environmental chemistry, atmospheric science, biology, and climate science.
I am a postdoc in the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry (LAC) of the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland.
I have 9+ years of research on bioaerosols and organic aerosol chemistry.
I use analytical (field observations and smoke chamber simulations) and numerical modeling methods.
I've been developing and applying techniques to measure (bio)aerosols, including fluorescence spectroscopy (e.g., WIBS) and mass spectrometry (e.g., EESI-TOF MS, EESI-Orbitrap, FT-ICR MS, GC-MS, and AMS).
I led 8 and participated in 6 field campaigns in various environments (urban, ocean, mountain, etc.) on-site and on cruising vessels and airplanes.
Also, I've been applying data-mining tools (e.g., machine learning (ML)) to reveal those unseen.
Besides, I’m also interested in the chemistry of organic aerosols like brown carbon (BrC), and their impact on the climate (e.g., the Arctic warming).
I have extensive international experience and collaborations in China (mainland and HK), Germany, Switzerland, the UK, the US, Japan, India, etc.
