博士課程前期（マスターコース）での修論ゼミでは，自らの興味・関心に基づいて研究テーマを設定しますが，研究活動を通して算数・数学教育の「実践」だけでなく，算数・数学教育の「研究」に対して何らかの貢献を与えることが期待されます。そのためには自らの経験だけでなく，国内外の先行研究のレビューや理論的枠組みに基づく研究対象の理解が不可欠です。
そのためゼミの中では海外の研究論文を取り上げて文献演習を行うことを通して「研究の言葉」を学びます。そして自らの研究テーマにふさわしい理論的枠組みを設定し，事例研究を通して研究の質を高めていきます。
カリキュラム開発領域・学習開発学領域では，修士論文の構想発表会，中間発表会，成果発表会が開催されますので，研究活動の進捗状況を定期的にまとめ改善を行います。さらには，数学教育学関係の学会で研究成果を発表することもあります。修了生は，小学校・中学校・高等学校の教員になったり博士課程後期に進学したりしています。過去には修士論文の成果をベースとした論文が数学教育学の国際ジャーナルに掲載されたこともあります（ジャーナルのサイトへ）。

In the Master’s course, students in the thesis seminar set their research topics based on their own interests and concerns. However, through their research activities, they are expected not only to contribute to the practices of mathematics education but also to make a contribution to research in the field. To achieve this, it is essential to move beyond personal experience and engage with reviews of previous studies from both local and international scholarship, as well as to develop an understanding of the object of study within a coherent theoretical framework..
Accordingly, the seminar includes literature reviews from international research contexts, enabling students to learn the language of research. Students are then advised to establish a theoretical framework suited to their own research theme and to enhance its quality through case studies.
In our laboratory, within the fields of Curriculum Development and Learning Development, proposal presentations, mid-term presentations, and final presentations of Master’s theses are held, allowing students to regularly review and improve the progress of their research. In addition, research findings may be presented at mathematics education conferences. In some cases, papers based on Master’s theses have been published in international journals of mathematics education (see journal website).
