Submit your work

Interested in submitting a piece to the

Critical Voice NI website?

There are a number of ways for you to proceed with this:

Submit a 500-word reflection on practice piece.  These snapshots of practice capture the essence and impact your work is having. If you are interested in writing a short piece on your organisation, your specific project, an important transformative moment, a story or a critical view of youth work practice these pieces can be submitted all year round and should ideally be accompanied by a related photograph.

Submit a 2000 - 3000 word article. These longer, more theoretical pieces, offer the writer the opportunity to more fully explore a theme relevant to youth work practice.  This article can be submitted as the result of a specific call or as a result of having spent some time personally developing your ideas in a particular area.  Maybe you have recently completed a piece of research or spoke at a conference; this is a way of widening access to this material.  The articles section of the site will be updated 4 times per year.  Contact a member of the editorial group (details below) and they will forward guidelines to keep you on track.  They can also set you up with a writing supporter who can offer specific guidance in writing for Critical Voice.

Join a writing group.  Often people are keen to get involved but don’t quite know where to start or lack the confidence to give it a go alone. With that in mind the Editorial Group will send out thematic calls and ask those interested in the topic to attend a number of writing workshops.  This small group will then work collectively on an article. The editorial group will support the writing group at each stage as they develop their piece for publication on the site.  Alternatively, if you already have a specific theme you can set up a writing group around this theme.  Again the Editorial Group can provide support with this.

Archive Resources. If you or your organisation has printed relevant local research or reports, they can be housed in the resources section of the site.  Please forward these to the Editorial Group for inclusion.  You may also wish to write a piece for Reflections on Practice highlighting the findings of said report and the implications for practice.
