Current Position
I am currently a Research Fellow at Korea Institute for International Economic Policy. I served as Head of Europe Team here.
Education
I had done my undergraduate at the School of Economics, Yonsei university, before I came to the UK and did two master's degrees, one in economic history and the other in economics, both at the LSE. I completed a PhD in February 2019, with the thesis entitled "Migration and Ethnic Diversity in the Soviet and Post-Soviet Space".
Research Experience
I worked as a research assistant for Prof Jaymin Lee at Yonsei University in my 4th year. After finishing my first master at the LSE, I joined the government-led research institution, Korea Institute of Public Finance, working there for around two years from 2011 to 2013. I also assisted the research of Dr Eric Schneider at the LSE, transcribing UK medical records in the late 19th century.
I was a post-doc research fellow in Economics and History Departments (jointly) at Stellenbosch University in 2019-2020. I worked on the economic history and demographics of 20th-century Cape Town.
At KIEP, I've studied various economic and social phenomena which occured in Europe, including COVID-19 impact, climate change responses, and migration.
Teaching Experience
I have been continuously engaged in teaching since I was undergraduate. In the 3rd year, I volunteered for tutoring foreign students in macro and microeconomics and received an excellent tutor award. Since the very beginning of my PhD programme, I have taught the introductory course of economic history (EH101) and quantitative economic history course (EH103) at the LSE. I have also helped many GCSE and A-level students studying economics where I developed skills to explain complicated economic concepts in plain language. In Stellenbosch, I taught key topics in economic history and quantitative methods to history students.
I have been an adjunct professor at Ewha Womans University since Fall 2022.
Other experience
I was a co-founder and the first president of the Association of Korean PhD Students and Researchers in the UK (KRUK) and hosted one conference and four seminars in 2017-18 academic year.
I have been actively participating conferences and seminars to present my research and poster from 2016. You can find the list of conferences I present my works in the CV above.
I joined the Korean Army in 2004, served two years as a teaching assistant at the Artillery School.
