This series celebrates the beginning of the Ignatian Year which actually started on the 20th of May 2021, 500 years since Ignatius was struck by a cannonball and his life changed forever. Watch the videos below and follow the contemplation exercises afterwards.
First viewing: In the spirit of Ignatius, imagine that you are there with him, following in the footsteps of his story, watching his life happen before you like a movie.
Second viewing: Re-watch the video, focus on episodes of Ignatius' life and recount times in your life that you may have had similar thoughts or feelings. What can you learn from this?
Read Mark 10:17-27 - The Rich Man. Imagine you are the rich man. Consider your spiritual freedom or lack thereof. Notice what Jesus says to you (the rich man). Ask yourself: What attracts me to follow Jesus and what holds me back?
Alternatively, choose your favourite Gospel story. Imagine you are a character in the story and Jesus is talking to you. What is God trying to tell you through this scripture passage?
Pray the Examen in the context of what you have just learned about the life of St Ignatius.
What are you thankful for today?
Carefully look back on your day, hour by hour; what happened in the morning, afternoon, evening...? What went well and what went wrong?
Where do I need God in my life tomorrow?
