This blog was created in 2023 with the purpose of sharing the genuine thoughts of young people from the Solomon Islands.

'To Deprive People, Forget Education'

The International Day of Education 2023 was celebrated in the Solomon Islands under the theme of ‘invest in people, prioritise education’, but the author argues that the reality is the opposite with decision-makers depriving young people of their education. The closure of schools due to COVID-19 and their use for the South Pacific Games means that education is not being prioritised, and the unemployment of youth is depriving the nation of potential. The author suggests investing in technology and entrepreneurship to empower young people, whilst valuing education as a human right and prioritising the economics of education.

The switch of recognition from Taiwan to China caused social unrest, and the US reopened its embassy in response. The Sogavare government's decision to sign a security agreement with Beijing has caused confusion and fear among neighboring countries, and many in the Solomon Islands see it as a conflict of interest. The competition is driven by the superpowers' pursuit of economic growth and global influence, with little regard for the impact on Solomon Islanders.

Environmental Sustainability of the Solomon Islands, Specifically In Guadalcanal Province

The Solomon Islands, known as the Happy Isles, are a group of islands in the South Pacific with diverse cultures. They were discovered by a Spanish explorer in 1567 and later annexed by English traders. The islands were the site of the WWII battle of Guadalcanal, and today they face environmental challenges due to pollution caused by the war and climate change. The Adetao Association was created to promote environmental sustainability and combat deforestation, logging, and emissions from factories and mining. The people of the Solomon Islands are raising concerns about survival, natural resources, and the health of future generations.
