Council Report 1984-1985

This report has been compiled from the reports given to the 1985 AGM by The Officers of the Association.
Once again the affairs of the Association have been administered by a Management Committee and it is intended that this arrangement will continue for the forthcoming season.
Winter League entries consisted of one division of 12 teams and seven divislons of 11 teams. Congratulations to Electricity A on winning Division One for the first time in the club's history and on doing the 'double' by also winning the Shepherd Trophy. Competition in the league was so tight that in two divisions there were play-offs to decide promotion.
The York Closed Championships were once again sponsored by Northern Management Company Ltd of Harrogate and our thanks again to our President, Malcolm Hall for his help. Tony Sanderson again dominated the Championships winning five out of five events, and Maureen Gott, re-affirming her position as York’s number one lady after the birth of her daughter won all three events she entered.
The Bagshaw Trophy was won by Stan Ryder of NALGO who beat Jo Suchecki of Boothan In the final and the Machell Trophy was won by Coneysthorpe who beat Huby
The Charity Pairs raised over £100 for the Save the Children Fund and our thanks go to Ebor Blinds who sponsored this event. In one of the most exciting finals yet B. Hough and D. Hough beat D. Boothroyd and N. Blackburn 3-2.
In Yorkshire League our Mens 1st team managed to stay in the Premier Division but the 2nd team were relegated to Division Two where they will be joined by York 3rd who were promoted as Division Three champions. The Juniors were relegated from the Premier Division but our Veterans 1st team who won Division Two last year emerged as champions of Division One this year. Tony Sanderson of York won the men's Premier Division Yorkshire League merit award.
The coaching sessions held at the Railway Institute have continued to attract a good number of youngsters of all levels but as usual help with organising and practice is still lacking. Betty Norman the Coaching Secretary is once again asking for YOUR help.
The Annual Dinner/Dance was held at the City Arms this year and proved to be a most enjoyable evening. The presentations were made by Keith Bruce one the Association’s Vice-Presidents.
The Treasurer reported a small surplus for the year but it was felt in view of inflation an increase in team fees was required for the forthcoming season.
At the AGM the Chairman thanked all the officers and members of committees for their hard work during the season.
here are three changes in officerships for next season. Mike Wadsworth succeeds Leyton Ball as Handbook Secretary, Bill Eason takes over from Clive Warley as Competitions Secretary and Joanne Walton is the new Summer Competitions Secretary in place of Mike Shepherdson.
