Building Core Data Science at DiDi

I built and led Core Data Science at DiDi, defining its mandate and research priorities. The team supported scientific evaluation across more than 10 business lines through methods, platform capabilities, training, and standard operating procedures.

My role

I established the team’s direction, selected methodological priorities, and connected its work with business evaluation needs. I was promoted to Director of Data Science & Chief Data Scientist in April 2024.

Building the capability

Developed experimental design and causal inference methods, including switchback experiments and variance reduction. Worked with engineering teams to improve experimentation capabilities. Built training and standard operating procedures to help teams apply quantitative evaluation consistently.

Outcome

Established a central data science team serving more than 10 business lines, with contributions spanning research, shared experimentation capabilities, and methodological guidance.

Leadership perspective

This work combined organization design, research prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration. The team developed methods and helped business teams use them.
