Wishing to introduce international audiences to the unique comedic world of live rakugo — Japan’s traditional art of comic storytelling — I had a story translated into English.

While remaining faithful to the original storyline, Yoshi skilfully adapted certain expressions to resonate with non-Japanese audiences — expressions that would not have conveyed the intended humour if translated literally. His thoughtful approach ensured that the authenticity, essence, and humour of live rakugo were preserved in translation. Thanks to his insight and sensitivity, we were able to recreate a genuine rakugo experience in English — one that captures the spirit of Japanese humour in a way that truly strikes a chord!
