The Yolo Justice Relief and Reform Committee is a diverse coalition of local retirees, along with current and former city, county, and state employees, united by a common recognition of the urgent need for transparency and reform within our government. This committee was idealized in 2022 and formed in 2023 as a response to case knowledge and work experiences of some of its members. Some of us have witnessed the misuse of power by public officials. Through fear, control, and divisiveness, these actions have not only affected government staff but also the wider community. Our mission is to advocate for meaningful changes that uphold the principles of justice, accountability, and transparency, ensuring that our government better serves and reflects the values of its people.
"YJRR harnesses the power of social media and a network of remote volunteers to ultimately champion a national cause:
liberating American citizens from the tyranny of unchecked 'carte blanche' qualified immunity, which has compromised justice for over five decades.
We recognize the simple fact that, Mayors, Judges and District attorneys are not infallible human beings, who should be "Blindly trusted" to their own devices.
"We, the people effectively sanction the malignant deeds of the powerful, by failing to relentlessly monitor and assertively demand quick accountability and heavy punishment. This lapse serves as a "dereliction of the people's duty" as guardians of our public trust, underscoring the critical need for a deep-seated suspicion and a relentless pursuit of justice that challenges and dismantles the structures enabling such abuses of power.
Qualified immunity was established as law in 1967, setting the stage for a doctrine that would significantly impact the accountability of public officials in the United States.
