Getting to Odense:
The closest airports are Copenhagen Airport and Billund Airport. There is a direct train from Copenhagen Airport to the central train station of Odense. Check the website of DSB for a convenient connection. If you travel by train, there are direct trains to Odense from Copenhagen Central Station and from Hamburg central station. You can find connections at the websites of DSB and DB.
With DSB there are three types of tickets. The "Orange" ticket is cheapest, but non-refundable and you have to pick a particular train to take. The option "Orange-free" is also very affordable and refundable, but you still have to choose one particular train. These two options are limited and can only be booked well in advance. The option "Standard" allows you to take any one train for the connection you chose on the chosen date.
Accommodation:
We have booked a number of 2-, 3-, and 4-bed rooms at Danhostel Odense for 6 nights from July 20th - 26th. To get to the hostel from the train station, exit the station towards the city center, turn right and walk ~30m. The hostel building is connected to the train station building; see also here.
By now, we have already sent out a confirmation mail if we are sure we can accommodate you.
A linen package is included, and contains a towel. You will have to supply your own soap, shampoo etc.
Public transportation:
The easiest way to get around in Odense is the Letbane, the local tram. It only has one line that goes every 10 minutes from 7 am to 6 pm and every 15 minutes from 6 pm to midnight. The tram stop "Odense Banegård" is right in front of the train station and thereby right next to the hostel. You can visit the Letbane website here to check the schedule and you can buy tickets here. Also, there are QR-codes at each stop you can scan to buy tickets.
Getting to the venue:
Take the tram (Letbane) to the stop "SDU". This is the second stop on campus, after "Campus Odense". There is a tram stop right next to the hostel/train station, you should take the tram towards Hjallese. It takes approx. 22 minutes to get to SDU.
The talks will take place in lecture hall U300 in the SDU building. From the tram stop "SDU", walk south-west and enter the building at the entrance marked "Stenten S". The lecture hall is just left after the stairs. We have indicated an alternative route in blue.
The entrances to the university are open 08:00-16:00/17:00. If you find yourself locked out of the building, please contact the organisers or someone inside.
Breakfast:
You can book breakfast in the hostel at the reception (which will not be covered and will have to be paid separately). Breakfast needs to be ordered before 6PM the day before. Alternatively, there are several good breakfast options in the train station and the city centre (~10 min walk). For Danish pastries we recommend Wendorff.
Lunch:
We will have catered lunch consisting of a variety of sandwiches nearby the lecture hall (costs are covered). You can also get lunch at the main canteen. Also, there are supermarkets Netto and Bilka just outside the campus (along the tram line) where you can get takeaway lunch.
Dinner:
There are many good restaurants in and around the city centre, including
Storms Pakhus (international street food, vegetarian-friendly),
Restaurant Grønttorvet (Danish),
Marcantonio Trattoria (Italian),
District 13 (Asian fusion, vegetarian-friendly),
Umashi (Sushi),
Gourmet Værkstedet (vegan and vegetarian-friendly),
Paprika (Indian, vegetarian-friendly),
Cafe Kosmos (vegan).
Almost all restaurants will have at least one vegetarian option; the ones highlighted above as vegetarian-friendly just have a broader selection.
Good to know:
You almost never need cash in Denmark, so you do not need to bother getting Danish Kroner at the airport or train station.
