Environmental design with Oil on Canvas

For this project, I intended to portray an ancient Chinese lost ruin. The medium of oil on canvas provides depth to the painting and gives the sense of time better than other mediums.

The sketch studies on the side are done with blue ball-point pens, they are studies for me to comprehensively understand ancient Chinese building structures, especially for the "evil-repelling" roof.

Story outlines/settings:

Both characters are set in a post-apocalyptic world in an alternate universe that has developed advanced civilization even compared to earth. The planet is located in Messier 43, also known as De Mairan’s Nebula, named after their unique tailed humanoid species Prokozard

Prokozard was once a rich and wealthy land that held an abundance of hyperactive natural resources that later became to be the key power source of spaceships. Through trading goods, Prokozard empowered their civilization, building military fronts, scientific research bases, that are capable to produce giant military robots, and spaceship carriers that enable major military projects. This rapid advancement of technology was brought to attention by an elite civilization of alien species named “Ghang’Mna”. Compared to Ghang’Mna’s heated laser weapons and fighter ship bombardment, Prokozard’s defenses are thinner than paper. The glory of the old days is gone no more, the bloodbaths completely demolished Prokozard and their civilizations. “Ghang’Mna” now legally owns the planet of Prokozard, they enslaved anyone who survived the invasion as a miner and is contracted to work until they die.

Ekho, was a mutant from the Prokozardian species. He was born deformed without the most prominent feature, a feature that can be weaponized. When the military of Ghang’Mna launched their attacks at Prokozard, his parents were killed before his eyes and abducted by Ghang’Ma’s commander and brought back to be a specimen solely used for scientific research.
