The land Griffith Observatory is built on was first a part of a Spanish settlement called Rancho Los Felis. [2]
This settlement remained in the Felis family until 1882. [2]

In 1912 Griffith offered the city 100,000 dollars to build an observatory where the park once was. [2]

This land has had many changes over time but still remains the Griffith Observatory currently. Perhaps in the future the observatory will expand, or maybe someone will have an entirely new idea for what it could be. Only time will tell what will become of this area next.
