Class Taught
My teaching focus is on structural design topics and structural analysis topics. I like including interactive projects into my classes so that students can connect theories with engineering practice. I make use of Excel spreadsheet, MATLAB code, and structural analysis software like SAP 2000 to enrich the learning experience of my classes. Here is a list of classes I have developed over the years.
CEE 3202 Structural Analysis
Michigan Tech - 2025 Spring
Conventional Structural Systems
Determinacy in Structural Systems
Determinate Beams and Frames:
Solve for shear and moment diagrams
Solve for deformation functions using double integration
Solve for deformation using virtual work method
Determinate Trusses:
Solve for member forces
Solve for nodal deformation using virtual work method
Force Method for Indeterminate Structures
Force method for beams and frames
Force method for trusses
Influence Line for Structures
Displacement Method (If time permits)
Cable Structures (If time permits)
CEE 5213 Concrete and Masonry Structures
Michigan Tech - 2024 Fall
Analysis and Design of Two-Way Slabs
Torsion of RC Beams
Analysis and Design of Slab-Column Connections
Plastic Analysis and Nonlinear Analysis of RC Frames
Nonlinear Analysis and Slender Columns
Design and Analysis of RC Frames in Engineering Programs
Design Reinforced Concrete Walls and Reinforced Masonry Walls
The major goal of this class is to help students to understand the RC structural responses from a structure level that is beyond section level understanding. The material is set up such that by the end of the class, students will have the theoretical background to understand why we prefer "strong column weak beam" design for earthquake.
