Recycling: an immediate need of society
Recycling is an environmentally friendly habit which is highly beneficial as far as avoiding excessive waste production is concerned. It is a creative solution to throwing away something not yet useless. As such, governments worldwide must encourage citizens to adhere to it in order to become sustainable nations. Nonetheless, it is a complicated task to do so, since it is necessary to dedicate funds to it whilst making people aware of environment-related issues which could be alleviated by recycling and, to do that, there are a few strategies that can prove themselves helpful.
One strategy governments should use is legislation. Laws could be especially helpful because, by making recycling mandatory, only a minority would disobey. That would already exponentially increase the amount of people who practiced recycling. Furthermore, the minute amount of unlawful people could be shrunk by using proper supervision. In other words, if they had to pay fines for not recycling, they would surely start doing so.
Moreover, advertising would without a doubt be an extremely powerful ally owing to its capability of both raising environmental awareness and being informative simultaneously. Provided people saw the reality behind the global waste production problem and its consequences in the foreseeable future, they would start thinking about how they could become more harmless to future generations environment-wise and rationalizing their daily choices. That would lead to a higher average recycling acceptance rate. An additional is, albeit quite expensive, it can present a how-to guide in order to show the population what they must do to recycle. Namely, how it works, how often they must do it, and the location of nearby facilities.
On the whole, without incentives, most people will not become interested in preserving our planet’s integrity. Thus, it is of utmost importance that governments use the aforementioned measures with the goal of encouraging the adherence of paramount sustainable habits such as recycling.
